The Munich Deanery of the Protestant Lutheran Church in Bavaria has produced an impressive film about our joint trauma care in El Salvador. The idea for the project was born during a delegation trip in 2011. Pastor and psychologist Vilma Rodriguez from the Salvadoran Lutheran Church (SLS) asked for support to help local parishioners cope with their traumatic experiences.

Our local partners expressed a desire for ongoing training to provide a specialist service for people suffering from post-traumatic stress. We then developed a comprehensive training concept together with our local partners. In cooperation with the deanery and Mission EineWelt, we were able to launch professional training in psychotraumatology, which culminated in 2016 with the graduation of the first group of pastors.

In recent years, trauma training has been extended to the Community of Lutheran Churches in Central America (CILCA). Another milestone was the inauguration of the “Centro de Atencion al Trauma – Helmut Waltraud Köhler” trauma care center in San Salvador in 2019, in cooperation with the Munich Deanery.
